This just in: Apple will be holding a product announcement event in San Francisco on March 7, as many had predicted. The image embedded in the email invite (pictured above) hints at what's in store with only a single phrase: "We have something you really have to see. And touch."
But the visual content in the image is self-evident: If that's not an iPad 3 in the photo, then Tim Cook really has something exciting and unprecedented up his sleeves.
Apple's third-generation iPad is widely rumored to sport a super high-resolution display, and the invite certainly doesn't dispel that rumor. Other anticipated specs include an upgraded A5X or A6 processor (either dual-core or quad-core), an improved camera and 4G LTE. Based on leaked case images and other reports, the iPad 3 may be very slightly thicker than the iPad 2.
