Since it's already explained briefly in the tweet and the donation description I'll be a little more lengthy here. It's been steadily getting more and more difficult to keep up rent payments on my apartment. I'm part time. I'm a grocery store stocker. And while I make a decent amount per hour, I'm sorely limited by how many hours I'm actually given. Which fluctuates wildly.
I'd considered moving for a long time but there would always be something in the way, or I'd get a small boost and I'd think "Maybe I can make it". But I'm tired of living on the edge of homelessness. While fantasizing about a better life and doing some 'real estate window shopping' I was doing some estimates on how much a little house would cost and holy fucking shit, it's roughly four whole fucking hundred dollars cheaper a month to get a loan and buy a small 1,000 square foot THREE BEDROOM house ($500 before food, utilities, etc.) than it is to rent a 650 square feet single bedroom apartment ($900 before food, utilities, etc.).
So I made the jump. And I'm nearly on the other side.
But wouldn't you god damn know it, I wasn't told all the closing costs up front and not only was it twice the original estimate (from $4,500 all the way up to $9,000), but even after getting as much help from my immediate family as I could, getting the sellers to agree to cover $2,500 of the closing costs, and throwing in as much as I could despite barely affording the place I currently live, I'm still short by about $850. And that's not even counting that I've already paid $400 to have an inspection done and I'm looking forward to paying another $400 for an appraisal which may reset the negotiations on the house entirely, meaning the sellers may decide not to grant the $2,500 to help cover their losses if the house doesn't appraise high enough.
But if I can't afford the closing costs I lose the home. I lose the earnest money I put down on the house. And with that loss of money, the earnest money, paying for the inspection, paying for the appraisal, it's even harder to make it to the next month.
So if you can help, at all, in the slightest, please. I need it. And if you can't, that's fine. Take care of yourself first. I will preach this to the day I die, YOU should always come first. But if you can't do anything else, please at least share this so that someone who does have a bit extra they can hand out can potentially see this.
